Emergency Department

Ashland Community Hospital’s Emergency Department provides quality care for all patients seeking emergent medical care 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, regardless of age, race, religion or ability to pay.  A wide variety of patient conditions, illnesses, medical problems, and traumatic injuries may bring patients to Ashland Community Hospital’s Emergency Department.

Evaluation and treatment of emergency conditions are provided by experienced Emergency Department nursing staff and physicians. Special training in Advanced Cardiac and Pediatric Life Support, trauma and other medical emergencies is required for the ED Staff. The Emergency Department is equipped with state-of-the-art emergency medical equipment in a full range of sizes to accommodate patients of all ages. Oregon State certification as a Level 4 Trauma Center means ACH ED meets state criteria for evaluation and treatment of trauma.  Some patients with severe traumatic injuries may require transfer to a specialist for further treatment.

After receiving stabilizing treatments at Ashland Community Hospital, patients with certain cardiac conditions, severe trauma, burns, psychiatric or pediatric illnesses may be transferred.

Emergency Department Care Includes:

The following list represents what is offered at Ashland Community Hospital's Emergency Department and doesn't necessarily occur in all cases or in the order that the services are listed.

  • A complete medical exam by an experienced Emergency Physician. This includes all testing and on-call services, within the capability of Ashland Community Hospital, as deemed necessary to determine if an emergency medical condition exists. If an emergency medical condition is found, all available resources will be utilized for treatment or stabilization, as needed.
  • On-Call Physician Specialists provide evaluations/treatments as requested by the ED Physician.
  • A complete nursing assessment, which includes problem-focused and complete body systems review, and screening for abuse, addictions, nutrition or functional risk, vaccinations, and chronic problems of a psychological, social or medical nature.
  • Confidential patient treatment and records of care. You have the additional option to request complete privacy status, where name and presence are held in confidence.
  • Diagnostic and support services including laboratory, respiratory, radiology, dietary, physical therapy and social services.
  • Referrals for specialty services and community support agencies.
  • Transfers to hospitals with a higher level of service when appropriate and needed to best meet patient needs.
  • Written discharge instructions with follow-up plans and referral phone numbers.
