Patient Instructions
FOR MAMMOGRAPHY
- Check to see if your previous mammogram films have been requested and sent to us. This will allow us to quickly compare them to your new films. Your results may be delayed if we are still waiting for your old films to arrive.
- Do not wear deodorants, lotions, perfumes or powders on the day of your appointment. This is especially true for the armpits and under the breasts. They may show up on your X-ray and may require you to return for repeat images.
- Wear comfortable clothing which you can quickly change. You will be asked to remove all clothing from the waist up and replace it with a loose fitting gown we provide.
- Avoid wearing jewelry. Long or dangling necklaces and earrings should not be worn.
- Schedule your mammogram appointment within the 2 weeks after your menstrual period to minimize any discomfort. If you have tender breasts, avoid caffeine for 2 days prior to your appointment. If you have very tender breasts, consider taking an analgesic such as Tylenol before your exam.
